Music is one of the most important things of the Brazilian culture. We have a lot of different kinds of music, like: samba, axé, sertanejo, MPB, funk, etc
SAMBA
Samba is both a style of music and a type of dance. This music is listen for the Brazilian people specially in the Carnival festival.
This festival can be on streets with electric trio or on the Samba`s avenue (sambodromo) like a parade.
Sambodromo (Samba`s Avenue)
This kind of Carnival is a competition between a kind of associations that they make your clothes, create your choreography and compose your own music without payment. All the participators of this association are volunteers. The association are evaluated for a professionals that gave you a note. The reward is money according with the ranking.
Street Carnival
This kind of Carnival happens on the streets and usually is free. The people make or buy your own costumes. Most part of the costumes is funny.
AXÉ
Axé is a kind of music very similar whit samba, but is most common in Salvador (Bahia) included on Carnival.
This music is usually dancing whit the choreography.
The most famous axé singer in Brazil is Ivete Sangalo from Salvador – Bahia.
SERTANEJO
The rhythm of Sertanejo is similar of American country music, but the lyrics talk almost always about sad stories of relationship.
The most common in Brazil is that the group will be in pair.
The pair most famous in Brazil is Jorge e Matheus.
MPB
MPB means Brazilian Popular Music, but today is not so popular like 1960s or 70.
This kind of music is slow and calm and one of the most famous singer is Chico Buarque.
FUNK
The Brazilian funk is not the same funk of the other country.
Funk in Brazil is popular mainly among young people. The funk lyrics are usually dirty, they talk about sex, drugs, “favelas” and the dance is aggressive. The girls shake your butt all the time.
In Brazil we have a lot of funk festivals (baile funk) usually on “favelas” and those festivals are to dangerous.
Anitta is one of the most popular funk singers of Brazil.
